Rice Krispie Treats

1/4 C butter or margarine

1 10oz pkg regular marshmallows

5 C Rice Krispies Cereal

 

Melt butter or margarine in a large pan over low heat.  Add marshmallows and stir until completely melted.  Cook three minutes longer, stirring constantly.  Remove from heat.  Add rice Krispies and stir until coated.

Using buttered spatula or wax paper press evenly into a buttered 9x13 pan.  Cut into squared when cooled.

 

Variations:

 

Carmel:  Partially melt 12 package (about 25) vanilla carmels with 1 Tbsp water and the butter.  Add marshmallows and continue as usual.

 

Chocolate:  Melt 2 - 1oz squares unsweetened chocolate with the butter.  Add marshmallows and continue as usual.

Citrus:  Stir 1 Tbsp grated lemon peel or orange peel into marshmallow mixture just before adding Rice Krispies.

 

Peanut:  Add 1 C salted cocktail peanuts with Rice Krispies Cereal. 

Peanut Butter:  Stir 1/4 C peanut butter into marshmallow mixture just before adding Rice Krispies. 

Raisin or Date:  Add 1 C raisins or chopped dates with Rice Krispies. 

Spice:  Stir 1/2 tsp cinnamon or ginger into marshmallow mixture.

 

Tropical:  Add 1 C shredded coconut and 1/2 C chopped nuts with cereal. 

Tutti Frutti: Add 1/2 C chopped candied cherries and 1/2 C chopped pecans with the cereal. 

Confetti:  Immediately after pressing into buttered pan, sprinkle with 2 Tbsp multi colored cake decorating candies over top.

 

Marble Chip:  Add 1 6oz pkg semi sweet chocolate or butterscotch morsels or 1 C peanut butter flavored morsels with cereal. 

Bran:  Add 1/3 C All-Bran Cereal with Rice Krispies.

 

Sesame:  Add 2 Tbsp sesame seeds with Rice Krispies.
